asbestos danger sign - knowing where asbestos hides is crucial to avoid potential dangers

NEW from HSE: ‘Where Asbestos Hides’ A3 posters

HSE has created two A3 posters on where asbestos hides to help building owners, landlords, employers, and people overseeing building maintenance stay informed about its potential presence within structures.

Knowing where asbestos hides ensures you and others stay protected.

Asbestos may be concealed within a building, for example:

  1. Lagging on plant and pipework
  2. Insulation products like fireproof panels
  3. Asbestos cement roofing material
  4. Sprayed coatings on structural steelwork for fire and noise insulation

The risk of asbestos extends to any building constructed or renovated prior to 2000.

Disturbing or damaging materials containing asbestos can release fibres into the air. Inhaling these fibres can lead to severe and incurable diseases.

The primary illnesses associated with asbestos exposure include:

  1. Mesothelioma
  2. Asbestosis
  3. Asbestos-related lung cancer
