The jib of a luffing tower crane collapsed overnight on Friday 12th January on a major residential job in west London.
This is the second incident involving a falcon tower crane in the space of three months. Last November, a luffing jib collapsed on a residential construction site in Edinburgh.
Crane owner Falcon Cranes said: “It has been reported to us that the jib of one of our luffing jib tower cranes collapsed overnight at a construction site in Acton.
“The crane was not in operation at the time and there are no reports of injuries or structural damage to other property. We will be conducting a thorough investigation of all immediate and underlying causes of the collapse.”
The crane was working on Durkan’s job for Network Homes. The project will see the creation of 158 affordable homes near Central Middlesex Hospital in London’s Old Oak and Park Royal regeneration zone.
