Build UK members contribute to latest updates to CIP Construction Environmental Manual

Construction Industry Publications (CIP) has continued its work with Build UK to ensure the Construction Environmental Manual includes industry recognised health, safety and environmental policies and standards.

CIP works with Build UK Contractor Members, including Wilmott Dixon, Kier, Mace and Wates to improve the knowledge and practices of those on site.

Plus, it does this without duplicating information or publishing conflicting advice.

What does the latest update include?

The latest Environmental Manual updates, published in mid-December include:

  • Guidance on the requirement for mitigation of nutrient (nitrates and phosphates) discharge to the water environment from development projects in certain areas
  • Notes on the use of DNA testing when conducting survey work for the presence of certain protected species
  • A description of the District Level Licensing scheme in relation to the surveying for and mitigation of the presence of great crested newts during development work

The go-to source of information

Neil Rosiak, Member of the Drafting Panel and HSE Director of Build UK member Tilbury Douglas Construction, said:

“For good practical up to date advice on health and safety matters, the Construction H&S and Environmental Manuals are a must for everyone involved in construction.

“Working with Build UK will ensure it is even more relevant on a day-to-day basis as the ‘go to’ source of information for all things health and safety and environmental.

“It will also keep the manual up to date with industry practices and provide the more collaborative approach we all want.”
