UK Green Building Council has launched new infographics to help answer key questions and bring biodiversity net gain to life.
The infographics aim to explain why biodiversity net gai matters for the built environment.
Plus, it looks at the concept and how it interlinks with wider environmental policies.
The UK Government has confirmed developers must achieve 10% biodiversity net gain at all large domestic, commercial and mixed-use sites from this November 2023. The mandate will not come into effect for smaller sites until 2024.
The infographics examine the intrinsic value of nature while demonstrating the impact of the built environment as an industry on the UK’s biodiversity. They also map the links between biodiversity and other socio-economic priorities to tell a wider story about how we should view nature as a foundational element of our economy and society.
The infographics also explain the differences between BNG, which focuses primarily on habitats, and other key concepts like Environmental Net Gain (ENG), which focuses on systems and outcomes, and Environmental Impact Assessments.
These infographics are intended for use by built environment practitioners designing, building or developing projects who want to skill up ahead of the BNG legislation in November 2023.
