UKGBC Biodiversity Net Gain checklists

UKGBC biodiversity net gain checklists are available for businesses to download.

Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is an approach to development that, on its completion, leaves biodiversity in a better state than before.

In England, BNG is mandatory under Schedule 7A of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (as inserted by Schedule 14 of the Environment Act 2021). The rules will apply to developers of small sites from 2 April 2024

Developers must deliver a BNG of 10%. This means a development will result in more or better quality natural habitat than there was before development.

UKGBC’s Biodiversity Net Gain Checklists take you through more than 30 detailed steps, outlining what you need to consider during the design, implementation and maintenance of BNG projects, to successfully increase biodiversity onsite and exceed the upcoming legislations.

They are designed to be used by a range of built environment stakeholders, and throughout combine both mandatory, and UKGBC best practice principles.
