The first solar and hydrogen-powered site cabins are being used by Costain and Skanska. They have been in use on their HS2 sites in a project push to cut carbon emissions by 50%.
Sixteen Ecosmart ZERO cabins have saved a total of 112 tonnes of carbon over 21 weeks.
Consequently, this has avoided burning 40,000 litres of diesel fuel in standard generators.
Lee Davies, a board member at Costain Skanska joint venture said: “Working closely with our supply chain, we have identified many ways to maximise our environmental outcomes, leading to several thousand tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) saved to date.”
