coronavirus grace periods

Coronavirus grace periods

Coronavirus grace periods are now in place for expired site safety certificates and CSCS card renewals.

The grace period for Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) and Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) certificates that expired since 1 October 2020 extends until 30 April 2021.

For certificates that expired between 15 March and 30 September 2020, the grace period ended on 31 January 2021.

Individuals must ensure they have successfully completed the appropriate refresher course by the relevant date, otherwise they will need to sit the full course again.

There continues to be a 12‐month grace period for CSCS card renewals, recognising that it may be difficult to take the HS&E test (or equivalent training).

CSCS is continuing to ask that sites use their discretion when they encounter cards with an expiry date since March 2020.

All workers should carry the correct card for the job they perform on site and must remember to renew their card within one year of its expiry date. Otherwise, they will have to apply for a new card.
