Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) launch updated Checklist

CCS has officially launched an updated Checklist, and from 5 May 2026, the CCS will introduce this strengthened, modernised Checklist and scoring model. The update is designed to give clearer expectations on site, more consistent assessments, and a fairer way to recognise positive performance.

This update is an evolution, not a revolution. Around 90% of the Code will feel familiar. The targeted changes focus on clarity, fairness and usability – making good practice easier to demonstrate on site and easier to improve over time.

What has changed?

The updated Checklist addresses these issues. The former 27‑question structure has been replaced with 24 clearly defined themes, grouped across Community, Environment and Workforce. Each theme sets out outcome‑focused expectations written in plain language. Sites retain flexibility in how they meet them, while assessments remain consistent and evidence‑based.

Scoring has also been redesigned. The previous out‑of‑45 model has been replaced with a percentage‑based system. Each expectation is scored as not met, partially met or fully met. This recognises partial achievement, improves differentiation between sites, and gives teams a clearer picture of where improvement will have the greatest impact.

Other key improvements include clearer expectations around supply‑chain collaboration, stronger alignment with social value reporting frameworks and BREEAM, and a sharper focus on workforce wellbeing – including mental health, UV protection, harassment and inclusivity.
