Defra unveils natural capital 'assessment' funding as post-Brexit green recovery shapes
Environment Secretary George Eustice has set out his vision for a green recovery from the coronavirus pandemic and as part of this announced a new £5m Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment to protect the UK's environment as part of a new package of Environment Bill measures. The £5m funding for natural capital assessments is aimed to improve the data collection of how nature and biodiversity are used within the UK. It will be followed by a £4m two-year pilot to improve biodiversity across four urban and rural areas that have been heavily impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
Canary Wharf Group (CWG) pledges to reduce its direct emissions by 65% by 2030
Canary Wharf Group (CWG) has pledged to reduce its direct emissions by 65% by 2030 and to develop a net-zero pathway before the end of 2020, after working with the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). It covers both Scope 1 (direct) and Scope 2 (power-related) emissions across the entirety of CWG’s operations and estate in East London, as well as Scope 3 (indirect) emissions.
